American Express notified customers of a data breach at one of their third-party merchant processors. The breach resulted in unauthorized access to customer payment card numbers, names, and expiration dates. While American Express' own systems were not directly compromised, they advised customers to monitor bank statements for fraudulent activity over the next 12-24 months. While specific details about the breach remain limited, American Express responded by notifying regulators and may reissue cards for affected customers. Read more
Analysis of the Bitcoin blockchain showed a payment of $22 million to a wallet associated with the ransomware group ALPHV aka BlackCat. This payment occurred after Change Healthcare was attacked by the ransomware. Initially, an ALPHV affiliate claimed the payment came from Change Healthcare, but they claimed to be unpaid. Researchers have since traced the wallet receiving the large sum to ALPHV. Read more
A class action lawsuit was filed against the law firm Houser LLP regarding a data breach disclosed in May 2023. The lawsuit claims the company failed to promptly notify individuals about the breach, waiting over 10 months. This delay caused plaintiffs to spend time and money monitoring their personal information to prevent potential identity theft. The complaint seeks damages for negligence, privacy violations, and unjust enrichment on behalf of the plaintiff and other impacted customers of a Houser LLP client. Read more
Ukrainian intelligence services (GUR) assert they carried out a "special operation" against Russian Ministry of Defense servers. The cyberattack allowed acquisition of classified documents relating to organizational structures and over 2000 units. Screenshots were provided as evidence but were not authenticated. While the GUR has claimed other Russian breaches, no statements regarding destroyed data or disruptions were made in this instance. The stolen data provided insight into Russian defense networks and personnel. Read more

A new ransomware group called Mogilevich claimed to have breached Epic Games, obtaining 189GB of data including sensitive employee and customer details. They offered to sell the data by March 4th but provided no evidence supporting their claims. An investigation by Epic found no corroborating evidence of a compromise. The company contacted Mogilevich, who only proposed offering proof in exchange for payment. This suggested the ransomware group's allegations may have been false. Read more
