SAS Availability Also Enables Greater Configuration Flexibility and Support for Tiered Storage Applications

Dec. 6, 2006 – SAN DIEGO – StoneFly, Inc., a leading supplier of integrated IP storage area network (SAN) systems and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dynamic Network Factory, Inc. (DNF), today announced major enhancements to its OptiSAN™ and ValueSAN™ IP SAN product lines to deliver new levels of performance, storage scalability and business continuity, while also providing customers with a wider range of options for configuration flexibility.

Both the OptiSAN and ValueSAN are part of StoneFly’s Modular Storage Concentrator (MSC) family of highly scalable IP SANs, which include a powerful StoneFly i4000 based on the StoneFusion Intelligent Network Storage Platform which offers a wide range of advanced storage services including storage virtualization; storage provisioning and access control; StoneFly Snapshot and Reflection synchronous mirroring software; and Stonefly Clustering and Load Balancing technology.

The StoneFly OptiSAN is a versatile workhorse that supports high transactional rates and sustains optimum throughput for high- bandwidth functions. With support for SAS and SATA disks now available in a single storage enclosure, OptiSAN is now ideal for tiered storage applications. The higher performing SAS drives, offered in capacities ranging from 36 to 300GB, allow support for transaction-intensive as well as demanding, business-critical applications, such as high-definition video streaming. With connection compatibility that allows customers to mix and match SATA and SAS disk drives in the same chassis, each OptiSAN storage system can be configured for both performance- and capacity-oriented applications.

Effective immediately, all OptiSAN systems will also be offered with redundant RAID controllers with single or dual Storage Concentrators to provide superior business continuity without a single point of failure. In addition, each OptiSAN system now supports up to 45TB per storage system. Through use of the optional Spod 12000 expansion array from DNF Storage, StoneFly’s parent company, OptiSAN now delivers more affordable expansion at costs of approximately $2 per GB, making it ideal for budget-constrained IT departments with escalating storage requirements.

StoneFly has also upgraded ValueSAN, a low-cost yet powerful IP SAN system for advanced, enterprise-class storage networking that scales over time. Starting at 4TB and scaling to 36TB in a single system, the ValueSAN scales horizontally and vertically to offer lower cost or higher performance expansion options. Single array ValueSAN configurations now top out at 12TB, doubling the previous generation’s capacity. Additionally, the IP SAN is now available with RAID 6 and in single- and dual-Concentrator configurations for enhanced business continuity.

Now shipping, pricing for the ValueSAN starts at $20,000 for a 4TB configuration; OptiSAN pricing starts at $32,000 for a high-performance 6TB configuration.
